The Slants
"Capture Me Burning" from the CD
Slanted Eyes, Slanted hearts |
The China Town Dance Rock of The Slants
is going on the road. Their over-the-top live performances - often featuring a knife dancer and fire breather - have recently drawn healthy amounts of attention around Portland.
On their new CD "Slanted Eyes, Slanted Hearts", this electro pop band is showing that there's more to them than their exotic live show. Layers of synth mix with an underlying punk attitude, creative vocalizations and electronic beats that transport you to the dance floor the moment you press play.

Strings Of Consciousness
"Crystallize It" from the CD
Our Moon Is Full |
French outfit Strings Of Consciousness create self-described "parallel music for perpendicular feelings". This is Experimental music that ranges from placid to raging waves of sound, topped off by warped pop vocals. Sort of like a trip to the seemingly harmless gingerbread house where the witch is going to fatten you up and boil you alive, the sugary appeal and the unique quality of the instrumentation draw the listener into these twisted musical fairy tales. Check out "Our Moon Is Full", available now from Central Control International.

| Luther Russell |

Join us for Episode 34 pt 2 of the Mastan Music Hour with Live guest this week Luther Russell.
The name Luther Russell is often followed in conversation by the words "the nicest guy" by many who meet him. The soft-spoken singer-songwriter/producer was as congenial as any of us remembered him when he joined us at the studio for this episode of the MastanMusic Hour.
His latest solo effort ,"Repair", has already received excellent reviews in the few short months since its release. To produce the record, Luther teamed up with long-time friend and co-producer Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Jayhawks, etc.), and by lucky circumstance, Ethan's father, the legendary Glyn Johns, producer for the likes of The Beatles, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. There is an intimacy and immediacy to these songs, aided by the fact that much of the recording was done live in the studio. The subject matter may be emotionally tumultuous, but it never quite veers into the depressing or self-pitying. There is a sense of catharsis and of taking it all in stride, albeit with the occasional wry aside.
Luther Russell will tour through Europe during October and part of November in support of Sarabeth Tucek.
Listen in on Episode 34, part 2 to hear Luther Russel tell us more about his latest album and to hear exclusive live performances of his new songs.
Luther Russell appears in this performance with:
Luther Russell - vox, acoustic guitar
Freddy Trujillo- bass, vox
Danny de la Matyr - guitar, vox
